In Spain, Christmas is a time for family and a time for enjoying quality fare. Two main dates for your Spanish style Christmas festivities are Christmas Eve and the 5th of January.

Christmas Eve is about the family and enjoying traditional Spanish fare. Normally the first course on the menu is likely to be plates of cold shellfish and cold cuts of meat. A traditional soup follows with potatoes followed by a suckling pig or roast lamb. (Turkey is another option). It is the custom to drink Cava, the Spanish sparkling wine. Sweets are also served on trays with Christmas cake, the important sweets being turrón and marzipan. Turrón is a nougat made of toasted sweet almonds and has been made in Spain for over five centuries.

The 5th of January Although the tradtion is not followed in the UK, it is when the Three Kings traveled over night to go to Bethlehem. The 6th of January is Three Kings Day. It is the most important day to Spanish Children as the Three Kings in effect replace Father Christmas (Santa is becoming more important though). So you can look to extend your Christmas festivities with a Spanish edge.
